Calling All Creative Entrepreneurs: Share Your Experience. Participate in The Entreprising Artist Survey

Never before have I seen more opportunity for creatives to become gainfully self-employed while living a life more compatible with their creative callings.

Every day, I receive emails from readers of
The Creative Entrepreneur who are asking questions about how to make the leap to creative self-employment, and who are also looking for inspiration and guidance from others who are doing the same.

The landscape of the Internet, especially in terms of marketing our work, is evolving and changing quickly. What may have worked two years ago or even last year, might not be working so well now. Over the last year or so, I’ve personally been making some big changes and experiments in how I work (in the studio) and how I work and present my work online.

You’re invited to participate in The Enterprising Artist Survey, created by Dan Johnson from
RightBrainRockstar.com and Helen Aldous from Artonomy.co, to help better understand what we creative entrepreneurs are facing right now.

Take the survey here:
http://rightbrainrockstar.com/starving-artist-survey/

I took the survey myself, and found that while the language is geared more toward visual artists, the questions are relevant for creatives in any medium.

Wherever you are in the pursuit of your creative dream, we’d love to hear about your experience. The more who participate, the better picture we can get. The survey is anonymous, and has some in-depth questions to help us get a better picture of what folks are dealing with and what resources you are tapping into that help you do your best work. There is also an option to get the survey results emailed to you directly, if you choose.

I’ll share the findings of the survey in follow-up article this March.

Meanwhile, if you have any specific questions for me about following your dream of creative entrepreneurship, please feel free to ask in the comments (follow the link) or send me an email.

If you have any resources (blogs or online courses) that are supporting you in either the making or selling of your creative work, I’d love to hear about those as well.

One of my own art-making experiments is the publishing of my own personal creative Sketchbooks, as a way of providing a window into my life as a working artist. It’s the nitty, the gritty, the deeply personal work, that underlies absolutely all of the outer work that I produce. I think of it as a Digital Apprenticeship, and you can read more about it here:

The latest issue of Sketchbooks is titled: The Economics of Creativity: Questions & Experiments I am Living Right Now Around Making a Living as an Artist

This issue is available until the next issue is published, which will be tomorrow: Tuesday, February 21. (I’m in the Central Time Zone here in Oaxaca, Mexico, and usually publish around 6pm or so, but sometimes later.)
